Scariest Monster

What is the scariest monster ever created in the horror realm. Think about it: it's not Dracula, nor Frankenstein, though both are classic original horror "villians." No werewolves are not the scariest, though some foklore makes them strong enough to rip a man in half with it's claws. Ghosts can be scary, but the msot they can do is move some furniture or make you feel a slight chill. And no, it's not Mike Meyers, or any other horror movie villians.
The scariest monster ever created by the human imagination is the zombie. "Why the zombie?" you may ask. Allow me to detail why the zombie is the most horrifying monster ever created by the human mind:

1. The zombie could actually be created by science in the future. Scientifically a zombie is created when a virus known as the "solomunus" virus infects the body. From the point of infection, the virus spreads to the brain and destroys the frontal cortex, effectively killing the host. The virus then replaces the frontal cortex with it's own cells and takes over the host body, creating an "undead" monster.
While the virus itself does not exist today, modern science has advanced to the point where it might become possible to manufature a virus that behaves just that way. While werewolves and vampires are folklore based on conditions that may plague the body, there is no physical way for them to manifest in today's world. Zombies on the other had could possibly exist in the future, unfortunately for human kind.

2. Zombies are very hard to stop. Think about it: the only way to stop a zombie is to destroy the frontal cortex of the brain or sever the spine at the base of the skull. Notice that I specifically didn't say "kill the zombie." A zombie is effectively already dead. It is just a body that has been reanimated by a virus. And then imagine trying to get a headshot while trying to escape a swarm of zombies. Not as easy as it sounds.
Not to mention that a small calibur bullet like a pistol won't do enough damage most of the time to the frontal cortex to render the zombie inert.
If they have an arm, a leg, or even the torso destroyed, they continue to move forward towards you to the best of their ability. Yeah, you might have destroyed both their legs, but they'll keep coming towards you, pulling themselves with their arms.
And don't even thing about trying to stop zombies with grenades or gas. Neither is effective on them. Zombies don't require oxygen to survive and therefore won't be affected by the toxic gas you toss at them. Shrapnel grenades are designed to cause as much damage to the human body and destroy vital organs, killing the victim through internal and external blood loss. However, since a zombie has no need for their internal organs, shrapnel grenades really have no affect on them, except to throw them 10-20 feet in multiple directions.

3. The zombie outbreak will probably have destroyed the society in which we live in, and daily supplies, like food and ammo will likely be hard to find. We live in a very modern society where everything is supplied for us in stores. However, if the zombie apocalypse happens, stores will cease to exist. The first few weeks will result in most of the supplies of the stores being depleted. And that includes the ammo stores. Ammo will become scare, and unless you know how to create your own ammo, you're screwed when it comes to killing zombies.
In any other monster situation, most of the time society is still present and all required needs are met. When have you ever heard of an apocalypse caused by vampires? Or Frankenstein for that matter?

4. Zombies cannot be deterred through scare tactics. Any human or human-like monster can often be deterred through various means. A vampire (in original folklore) can be deterred with crosses and garlic. Werewolves, only come out when the moon is full. Zombies don't have emotions and therefore cannot be deterred in their relentless persuit of brains. What will most likely happen is humans will lose their will to fight and give up, effectively losing to the zombies.

God help us if the zombocalypse ever happns.
