Borderlads 2: Final Review
Having spent quite a bit of time within the landscape of Pandora, I have come to the conclusion that my previous judgement about Borderlands is absolutely correct. I have spent roughly 40 hours playing the game with three separate playthroughs. Having played through the story (approximately halfway in two of my playthroughs and all the way to the final boss with my original playthrough) I can distinctly say that the story of Borderlands trumps that of many of it's competitors. The clever humor remains present throughout the entire game and only gets funnier as it is repeated.
The excellent voice acting done for Borderlands 2 only adds to the incredibleness (yes, I probably did just make that word up) of the game. You can choose to stay and listen to the characters in person, or dash away to sell your loot and hear them speak through your communications system. In no way shape or form do you ever miss what the characters are saying because you back out of a menu or pause and unpause the game.
Having played by myself, with my friends, and with a random group of players online, I can say that the experience is best when it is shared with a close group of friends. Playing alone does allow you to take the game at your own pace and doesn't require you to wait for your partner(s) to get finished with their menu. It is nice for the first playthrough to get the story and experience the full scale of the story. However, if you are seeking to experience the game to it's fullest, grab some friends and go through the game with them. Each of the characters is designed to compliment the others. Whether it be an assasin and a gunzerker, or a siren and a soldier, or a combination of others, each character has something that the others don't. All it takes is getting used to what your friends' playstyles are like and adjusting your character choice to them.
All in all, I stand by my previous conclusion. Borderlands 2 is an epic re-tooling of the original game and is exactly what a sequel should look like. I look forward to spending quite a bit of time in the Pandoran universe over the next few months and hope that you will take my reccomendation to buy the game.
