A Tribute to Those Loved and Lost
Every once in a while, someone comes along and changes us for the better. Someone whom we can’t imagine life without and who has so much vibrancy and life that it’s impossible to imagine that they’ll ever be gone. And then they’re gone in a flash. In the blink of an eye, life is gone and the world comes crashing down around you.
That was what happened when my good friend Kenneth passed away. And while it was a sharp pain at first, a knife that cut deep into the very soul of my being, the pain has slowly ebbed away. But every once in a while, there’s something that reminds me of Kenny. Be it a quick glance at a can of monster energy that reminds me of the times that we spent in the basement playing smash bro’s while drinking Monster Energy drinks and staying wired far too late at night. Or a song by Switchfoot that talks about remembering the yesterdays that we were together, the ache of loss will reassert itself in strange ways.
But it is this ache that reminds us that we are alive. Tennyson said “It is better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all,” and the love of friendship is one that I am certainly happy to have found. Kenny, I am so happy that we were friends and that I was able to share life with you. From goofing around backstage at plays to just simply enjoying late nights gaming together, you were a friend who changed me for the better. I can’t wait to see you again, but for now, know that I will share the same love and energy that you shared with me with those who are around me.
God be with you my friend and may heaven quake at our meeting again.
I love you brother.
