I Make My Triumphal Entry
Recently I dicovered the magic of a certain show. For now, the show shall remain nameless, but I would like to bring up the fact that this show, while it can tend to be on the "girly" side, does have some excellent stories, and a very well written, and well drawn cast. It rivals many of the more "manly" shows on TV at the moment and has easily hooked me, much quicker than some other shows I watched.
Yet, despite all of these excellent qualities, it is deemed too "girly" for a grown man to watch. An excellent show that caters to a younger female population is immediately off-limits to anyone else besides it's target audience. At least, that's what today's society says.
However, there are a large group of adult, conservative and liberal men, who enjoy the show and are not afraid to express their love for the show. They have taken the internet by storm and have even started to create their own community. Maybe you've heard of them: "Bronies."
Yes. A group of men, that love the show, "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic."
It defies all standards of society. Yet, isn't that what society is? A constant, ever-changing community that new things appear each and every day. There are trends popping up in society that were acceptable 100 years ago, but for some reason became unacceptable in the last century. Time is often doomed to repeat itself. To borrow from Dr. Who: "But actually from a non-linear, non-subjective point of view, [time] is more of a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff." (I had to throw that in somehow).
Maybe society is changing. What's wrong with a group of men (myself included) enjoying a show that is well-thought-out, well-written, and overall has a great theme to it. So what if it's designed towards a younger female audience. Man has always been breaking boundaries, and this is no different.
If you haven't discovered the magic of "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic," I dare you to watch an episode and not get hooked. I just dare you.
